CABBAGE PRODUCTIONS

taking comedy seriously

We're a writer-led comedy collective founded in London's West End. From a small theatre above a pub to Edinburgh sell-outs, international tours, and Methuen-published scripts — we make comedy that travels.

Cabbage Productions

From self-funded shows above a pub to international tours and Methuen published scripts in less than five years.

Cabbage Productions was founded by actors and writers Matthew Howell and Jack Michael Stacey, who met during the original London production of The Play That Goes Wrong in the West End. They began writing together in 2019, and haven't stopped since.

What followed has been a rapid and unlikely success story: from a self-funded debut at the Edinburgh Fringe to sell-out runs, national and international tours, and scripts published by both Methuen and Bloomsbury. Their sitcom pilot Section 13 was longlisted for the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Award.

In 2024, writer and director Katie-Ann McDonough joined the company as Creative Director, bringing a background in farce, ensemble comedy, and new writing development that has sharpened and expanded the company's artistic vision.

Together, Cabbage Productions makes comedy that is precise, physical, and genuinely funny — theatre built on the belief that the biggest laughs come from the truest moments.

His writing has been shortlisted for the prestigious Verity Bargate Award, and his play 100 Paintings was published by Renard Press and enjoyed a sell-out run.

Jo Hartland

ASSOCIATE PRODUCER

Jo is the operational backbone of every Cabbage Productions show. As Associate Producer, she ensures that the company's high-energy, fast-paced productions run with military precision — from rehearsal room to opening night and beyond. She brings calm, clarity, and unstoppable organisation to a company that specialises in controlled theatrical chaos.

Stephen Hyde

MUSICAL DIRECTOR

imon composes and oversees the musical world of Cabbage Productions' shows — the scores that sharpen comedic timing, underscore absurdity, and bring each production's emotional texture to life. His work is heard in every beat and every awkward silence.

Katie-Ann

MUSICAL DIRECTOR

Katie-Ann joined Cabbage Productions in 2024, bringing with her a rich background in farce, ensemble comedy, and new writing development. As Creative Director, she shapes the company's artistic vision, steers the development of new work, and brings a director's eye for physical comedy and theatrical invention to everything the company makes.

Her involvement has taken Cabbage Productions' work to a new level of ambition and precision — and The Librarians is the first major production to reflect her influence across the full creative process.
